Huntingstuddogs.com was developed by Kevin and Nicole Kimmes.  This site was started in order to promote healthy, accredited, hunting stud dogs while providing information to future dog owners by highlighting the health concerns all new dog owners should be aware of.

This story begins with our first hunting companion Dakota.  We, like so many other people were looking to find a dog and were unaware of all the health concerns that could result in the loss of your pet. We bought our first labrador retriever from a newspaper ad, choosing the litter that cost the least while being an AKC pure bred.  The first year went well but then the health issues began.  We dealt with food allergies, thyroid imbalances, and ultimately lost our pet at the age of 7 from a brain tumor.  All of these health issues cost us over $3000, especially when we had to buy dog food that was allergy tolerant at $80 a bag.  The money we saved by purchasing the dog via the newspaper was spent 100 times over in the end.

While there is no absolute guarantee with any pet, the experience left us much more informed, knowing that we needed to look for much more from the next breeder we would choose.  That is when we began our journey in educating ourselves on the health issues that can afflict hunting dogs and the contributions that organizations like the Orthopedic Foundation of Animals and the Canine Health Institute Clinic make to better our pets.

The idea of creating a stud dog selection website is one based first on health concerns.  We only choose dogs that have a documented record in the hunting arena via titles.  We also only allow dogs that have been tested for the numerous health issues that exist.

Many people look at me a bit odd when I review a dog for the first time.  I am very particuliar about a dog's skin, coat, and ears to make sure they are free of any  infections.  These things are often overlooked in the hunting world of dogs. Next are the specifics including titles and certified health tests.

Since our time owning our first dog Dakota, we have continued to compete in AKC Hunt Tests and numerous Tournament Hunts where our dogs have won numerous events and titles.  We have also raised several litters with many of the puppies going on to win titles themselves.

If you have any questions about our program whether you are interested in our stud dogs or you have a stud dog you think is worthy to be included in the huntingstuddogs.com program, please contact us.
